Speech therapy fees vary depending on the type of appointment. At Brighter Futures Allied Health, a standard 45-minute therapy session starts at $205, while a standard speech and language assessment (completed over two sessions with a summary letter) is $603.99. NDIS funding and other rebates may be available depending on your eligibility.
You don’t need a GP referral to book a private speech therapy appointment. However, if you’re seeking a Medicare rebate through a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan, you’ll need to see your GP first. Liverpool families can speak with a GP at local practices or hospitals such as Liverpool Hospital or Liverpool Medical Centre to discuss whether a referral is appropriate.
It may be time to seek an assessment if your child is difficult to understand, is not meeting expected speech or language milestones, struggles to follow instructions, or has difficulty with social communication, feeding or swallowing. An early assessment can help identify whether support is needed and provide guidance for the next steps.
Your speech pathologist will spend time getting to know your child and understanding your concerns. The assessment may include observing play, conversation or eating, along with activities that assess speech, language or swallowing skills. Afterwards, you’ll receive recommendations and a personalised therapy plan based on your child’s strengths and goals.
